Following the remark of @Lamaw in #13 it might be good to open a discussion concerning the 2 pre-existing OMR (audiveris and OpenOMR).

I looked at their projects and source code. But it seemed to me that they were abandoned (almost 2 and 3 years) and the code base is not well tested and very abundant. It might worth at least playing with them to know what's they features, but I think it will be to much efforts to dive into a nontested software without any help from the previous developpers.
