I recently wanted to get my old LBP-800 hooked up on a CUPS print server. First, I compiled and installed the driver, and did everything as asked in the instructions.
Everything looked fine, but, at the time of printing, nothing, and CUPS only shows me that the printer's don't answer.
I tested with the original driver under XP, still working as expected.

I hope you will provide support for something that old... But I can understand if you don't.

@Aang23, could I ask you to provide a bit more info about your system?

  • OS and OS version;
  • output of lsmod | grep lp, lsmod | grep ppdev, lsmod | grep parport_pc.
  • cat /etc/group to check that your user added to lp linux group.
  • output of sudo cat /proc/sys/dev/parport/parport*/autoprobe* and sudo cat /proc/sys/dev/parport/parport*/autoprobe*.
  • printing logs (somewhere inside /var/log/, didn't remember exactly).

I have reports that driver works fine on Ubuntu 16.04 (but don't know about newer versions of Ubuntu).

No problems :

The OS is Ubuntu 16.04.5 LTS Server
Here are the outputs : https://gist.github.com/Aang23/e0bbf23374bbe8f9df6d9e3fcf7e24be
And here are the logs I could find : https://gist.github.com/Aang23/0e16fce7ab6e4dea473e319d3ae7c123
I've seen some too... Thanks for taking time solving that !

Please test with the Canon ppa of Ordissimo on Launchpad.
Did you do:
sudo aa-complain cupsd?

Did it on Debian 9 Stretch using another computer. Working flawlessly. Thanks! (Didn't use Ordissimo)
