On the main web page it doesn't say anywhere to use Markdown. You should mention it. Also, are you suggesting to use Markdown or Commonmark?

Maybe, you should suggest using whatever text format you feel like as long as it basically follows the guidelines. If you want you could use djot.

(You say you should call the file CHANGELOG.md, which would have to be changed, but again that doesn't say what markdown version, which there are a lot of including commonmark.)
