The API actually does not provide diagnosis functions. Therefore it must be extended by diagnosis functions like

logging functions enabling the application software to write diagnosis information into a log file
functions to observe the application software status (read status information provided for diagnosis purposes)
read and write application sw data (write enabled only while in test mode)
halt and resume functions for the application sw (enabled only while in test mode)
