When attempting to create a new alert while not logged in to an account using an email address that is already registered, I was redirected to sign in. However, the search I performed prior to this redirection wasn't saved and I had to start again.
Usually Planning Alerts would automatically add the option to save the search as an alert when I sign in. However in this case I tried to create an account with an email address that already had account and somewhere along the way the search address was lost.
Context:
Whenever there is a search and then a sign in, I would expect a service to keep the search details or otherwise 'keep my place' in the journey and complete the task I began, in this case signing up for a new alert. In more straightfoward (search then sign in) circumstances Planning Alerts does this.
Forget that you already have an account with an already registered email address, and try to create a new account with that email address -
Save alert
Attempt to Create a New Account:
Click on the "Create Account"
Enter an email address that is already associated with an existing account.
Proceed with the account creation process.
Redirect to Sign In:
Upon recognizing the existing email address, Planning Alerts flags the need to sign-in & redirects
Sign In:
Enter your existing account credentials to sign in.
Expected Behavior:
After signing in, I expect to see:
"Save this search as an email alert" flagged below the search address.
Actual Behavior:
After signing in:
Details of the search performed before the redirection are not shown.
No alert is offered based on the prior search.
So it looks like I cannot convert the previous search into an alert without performing the search again.
Impact:
This issue requires users to repeat their search after signing in to create alerts, leading to frustration and potential loss of engagement.
