Currently OPAT referrals go via an email
With the move to elCID for OPAT perhaps teams could make the referrals via this.
This would improve data capture around referral process and integrate workflows.

Ideally they would enter:
Demographics
Patient location (e.g where currently, which team)
Diagnosis

Then a screen showing summary of these referrals with an "Import to OPAT button" which would transfer patient across on to the OPAT-Referral list

Discussed this with Sarah Logan (Lead OPAT Consultant)
She would be happy for the referrals to be added directly to OPAT-Referral List (in fact actively in favour of it)

Points raised

  • Could system send an email saying "Patient X has been added to OPAT-Referral List"
  • If the referred patient exists as an active inpatient episode should that information be auto-imported (I think yes)

CEDAR can detect clnical events (Referrals) and respond appropriately (Send an email)

I don't think we're likely to build a second thing that does basically the same transaction.
She's welcome to help/support the CEDAR project though :)

Copying the existing episode instead if it exists should be possisble.
