PermID is a schema from the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG). The ODI worked with LSEG to make this open. It includes Organisation IDs as well as financial instrument, quote and person record types, obviously we are only interested in the former.
Price of Registering an Identifier
unknown - not sure that is possible as I believe driven by needs of internal LSEG systems.
Is the Identifier Open for Use?
Yes
Issuing Organization
London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG)
Types of Data Included
Legal Name
Registered Address
Registration Authority ID
Country of Registration

Additional Information
PermID records cover every organisation that LSEG systems and products have come into contact with. Some records are very well populated (business sector, company website, registered and domiciled physically addresses, primary financial instrument and exchange quotes), some records are more sparse. The search and matching APIs are pretty good. The search ranking is very good, typically putting companies higher in the hierarchy to the top of search results. The search also appears to navigate company name changes quite well. Many PermID records are mapped to an LEI.
We have invested heavily in matching the companies we track on human rights activities to PermIDs as a way of making our data interoperable, particularly for financial services companies.

Thanks so much for this submission @trubens71! Looking for some optional additional details--curious if you might have an estimate of number of identifiers within the PermID system, and whether this has global coverage, or tends to have organizations that are concentrated in one country/address of registration region?
I can’t find anything on the PermID site that gives coverage volumes. My experience to date is that we have attempted to find PermID matches for 5,637 of the companies that we reference on our website with respect human rights abuses, and have found PermID matches for 4,556 of them, so just over 80% coverage for the work we do. A lot of the companies we reference are very small (e.g. migrant worker recruitment agencies in countries like Nepal, or small apparel facility in Bangladesh) which explains the 20% gap, with which we are comfortable given we are typically looking to companies higher up the supply chain to be held to account. That said my impression is that the breadth of coverage is definitely global and depth of coverage is more dependent on company size than geo location.
