With the introduction of openvstorage/framework#1266 you have the option to define how much memory is reserved for the metdata of a vdisk. A warning should be raised if too much memory is allocated for the metadata in order to prevent the OOM killer to stop killing the voldrv. This warning would have prevented OVSSUP-145 from occruing or at least post mortem allow to asses it quickly.
At least 16GB of the memory should be available for the voldrvs (but maybe OPS has a better idea of the threshold).
