I have a Redmi AX5, but I haven't upgraded the RAM, maybe support for it will be added in the future, maybe not. So backup some necessary information here.

You can try the firmware of Xiaomi AX1800 for flashing, it should be able to boot directly.

What's the problem?

I made a new firmware and will see if it can boot later,if possible, I hope we can communicate in Chinese, because my English is not very good, thank you.😀

It works fine on 512mb too

My all ipq60xx devices has been upgraded to 1GB. 😅

EDIT:
In addition to AX5 JDCloud, but I will upgrade it in the next few days.

I wish more memory is used for wifi, because this firmware is used as an AP for me.

Okay, I know. but I don't have a 256MB ipq60xx device, so it doesn't seem to make much sense to me.
Is there a way to add a menuconfig option to allow users to select it?

We can make another subtarget which uses modified dtsi

I think this is a bit too much trouble. 😂It’s better to upgrade the memory to 1G.

BTW, I hope that the discussion related to this topic can be moved to this issue https://github.com/openwrt-dev/ci-ipq60xx/issues/3, so close this.

Hardware specification:
  SoC: MediaTek MT7981B 2x A53
  Flash: 16MB NOR
  RAM: 256MB
  Ethernet: 2x 10/100/1000 Mbps
  Switch: MediaTek MT7531AE
  WiFi: MediaTek MT7976C
  Button: Reset
  Power: DC 12V 1A, PoE 802.3af 48V

Flash instructions:

Option #1 - SSH

I was able to SSH into the stock firmware of my device.

  1. Attach the router to the network
  2. Use scp (-O) to copy the sysupgrade image
  3. Connect using SSH and run `sysupgrade -n`

Option #2 - U-Boot

One way to use the bootloader for flashing is using TFTP:

  1. Connect to the router using an ethernet cable
2 Spin up a TFTP server serving the sysupgrade file
  3. Open the case and attach a UART
  4. Attach power to the router and interrupt the countdown by pressing
     any key
  5. Select option #2 (Upgrade firmware)
  6. Enter IP address information and image name
  7. Wait patiently

Currently, the existing uncompressed kallsym support is causing qualcommax
boards to hang on boot, and only after earlycon and verbose BUG() prints
are enabled the trace is visible:
[ 0.000000] ------------[ cut here ]------------
[ 0.000000] kernel BUG at kernel/kallsyms.c:340!
[ 0.000000] Internal error: Oops - BUG: 00000000f2000800 [#1] SMP

Felix has fixed up the uncompressed kallsyms support so modify the current
patch with the fix.

QSDK NSS builds utilize skbuff recycling for better handling of memory.

On a Dynalink DL-WRX36 (pbuf script should be set to 'auto') a significant drop in
memory usage was observed as well consistent sustained RX/TX speeds.

BEFORE:
echo 3 >! /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches

total used free shared buff/cache available

NOTE:

For 512MB platforms, users need to test with the following scenarios,
as the patch `999-233-ath11k-Disable-rx_header-tlv-for-2K-SKB.patch` is
really only testable on platforms with 512M or less RAM.

1.) Explicitly setting 'ATH11K_MEM_PROFILE_512M' on and see if system
    crashes on boot.

2.) Explicitly setting 'ATH11K_MEM_PROFILE_1G'

3.) Remove patches
    999-233-ath11k-Disable-rx_header-tlv-for-2K-SKB.patch
    999-311-ath11k-configure-nss-thread-priority-during-pdev_ini.patch

    And re-test with #1 and #2

It was incorrectly assumed that setting a 512M for 1G platforms would save
memory, instead it needs to be explicitly set to know proper memory
regions, otherwise it would cause fw crash.

Currently BCCA counter is updated to FW via csa counter offs and
beacon with new countdown is updated for every beacon tx completion event.
For EMA, all EMA beacons are updated in one shot, and counter update for
every tx event will mess up the actual sequence of countdown sent over the air.

Allow FW to update the countdown till 1 and finalize the color
change.

QSDK NSS builds utilize skbuff recycling for better handling of memory.

On a Dynalink DL-WRX36 (pbuf script should be set to 'auto') a significant drop in

NOTE:

For 512MB platforms, users need to test with the following scenarios,
as the patch `999-233-ath11k-Disable-rx_header-tlv-for-2K-SKB.patch` is
really only testable on platforms with 512M or less RAM.

1.) Explicitly setting 'ATH11K_MEM_PROFILE_512M' on and see if system
    crashes on boot.

2.) Explicitly setting 'ATH11K_MEM_PROFILE_1G'

3.) Remove patches
    999-233-ath11k-Disable-rx_header-tlv-for-2K-SKB.patch
    999-311-ath11k-configure-nss-thread-priority-during-pdev_ini.patch

    And re-test with #1 and #2

It was incorrectly assumed that setting a 512M for 1G platforms would save
memory, instead it needs to be explicitly set to know proper memory
regions, otherwise it would cause fw crash.
