The MIOP project is described here and the MIOP terms are defined in a YAML file here. The first page says "MIOP is designed with the goal of being incorporated into the GSC, using similar software infrastructure (yaml files)." Thus I think YAML would be a perfectly reasonable progression from the current Markdown format. |

BeBOP is a huge step forward in getting our protocols into a standard format. However, Markdown is still somewhat unstructured and not fully machine-readable. A structured format would allow for better comparison among protocols and easier export to metadata templates. Some options for rendering protocols in a structured format include YAML, JSON, XML, and Semantic Markdown. My group is going to experiment with this and see how it goes. Any thoughts are welcome!
