BeBOP 2.0 - Structured protocols in YAML or JSON format

BeBOP is a huge step forward in getting our protocols into a standard format. However, Markdown is still somewhat unstructured and not fully machine-readable. A structured format would allow for better comparison among protocols and easier export to metadata templates. Some options for rendering protocols in a structured format include YAML, JSON, XML, and Semantic Markdown. My group is going to experiment with this and see how it goes. Any thoughts are welcome!

The MIOP project is described here and the MIOP terms are defined in a YAML file here. The first page says "MIOP is designed with the goal of being incorporated into the GSC, using similar software infrastructure (yaml files)." Thus I think YAML would be a perfectly reasonable progression from the current Markdown format.
