It looks like they have added this, but it respects only the selection of theme for github, not the browser. This also causes a mismatch. |

Hey @iamdtms, thanks for reporting this. I'm a member of the GitHub accessibility team, and I've been tasked with this report. I'm also someone who's into favicon design, so this one was of particular interest to me. I did some digging through our favicon commit history, and it looks like other people internally had the same questions you did about our favicon treatment. Long story short: browsers aggressively and heavily cache favicons, and some treat bookmarked favicons differently than ones displayed in live browser tabs. Because of this, the current treatment is intentional. It is a balancing act between minding the caching and the desktop experience we'd like the majority experience to have. I also wanted to say thank you for taking the time and effort to report this. This sort of feedback helps us both directly and indirectly improve the product, so we appreciate it! |

Are GitHub planning a light & a dark favicon for different desktop modes? Or just one fits in every theme?
