Github.com Search – 2 Search Limit – Whoa! #151377

Hello, a 429 error means the client is sending too many requests. Do you happen to be using a VPN or proxy that could be routing your traffic from a IP address shared with others? Essentially too much traffic is coming from your IP address triggering the error. |

Welcome to the GitHub Community, @tommyrot10 , we're happy you're here! You are more likely to get a useful response if you are posting your question(s) in the applicable category and are explicit about what your project entails--giving a few more details might help someone give you a nudge in the right direction. This post belongs to the Code Search and Navigation category. I've gone ahead and moved it for you. Good luck! |

I'm also frequently getting rate limited with a very small amount of searching for repos. |

The 429 error means you've hit GitHub's rate limit due to too many requests in a short time. This can happen with searches or API calls. Wait a few minutes to an hour for the limit to reset. Logging into GitHub may help, as authenticated users have higher limits. |

I tried the follow search once:
https://github.com/search?q=gammy%20color&type=repositories
Result: 429 error. (Whatever that is.)
I repeated the search and got this:
_Whoa there!
You have exceeded a secondary rate limit.
Please wait a few minutes before you try again;
in some cases this may take up to an hour._
I checked. It's not April 1st. What on earth is going on please?
Thanks.
