Truth, Time and Superglue
written by Aurélie
Superglued habits
I thought my screen time had peaked, but apparently so has everyone else’s. The average adult now spends 4 hours and 20 minutes daily glued to a smartphone. That’s half a workday gone. The ultimate time waster of the year? YouTube. (Though this video is totally worth it.) Social life? Who needs it when we’ve got social media.
This made me laugh
Speaking of screen time, I came across a graph that really captures the truth about the last days of the year.
The best part of the quiet days between Christmas and New Year’s?
50%: Not staring at a screen in the office
50%: Staring at a screen at home instead
Gallop for Good
This month, an inspiring online event in Canada is uniting horses and their humans who believe in granting horses freedom—freedom to roam, form social bonds, and express their natural movements. The entrance fee will be donated to support Social Income.
AI Time Trap
It still feels too early to tell how AI is affecting the quality of my life. Sure, I get the theory that machines are supposed to free up time for more interesting tasks. (Didn’t they say the same about washing machines and Excel?) But in practice, it seems to have the opposite effect. I use AI tools, thinking I am being more productive, but in the end, I am just cramming more into the same amount of time. Is this really progress?
Lesson Learned
With my university days ending, here’s a question from a recent case study that stuck with me: How do you reintegrate child soldiers into society? Not an easy task. After its devastating civil war in Sierra Leone, over 7,000 children were disarmed and reintegrated into society through United Nations programs. Even UN critics have to admit: Well done.
My World in Data
175,000
South Korea, long on my bucket list, just gave me another reason to visit: Asia’s largest UBI trial. This is the number of 24-year-olds who get $220 per quarter, but only for local spending—no global chains. The impact? More self-improvement, thriving local businesses, and steady work motivation.
1,600,000
Did you know our tech platform would cost USD 1.6 million to build in Switzerland? Neither did we. Huge shoutout to the 26 amazing open-source developers who made this happen—well done.

Information: Our newsletter now comes out on the first day of the month instead of the last. That’s why there was no December edition.
