Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.

The instrument team would like to have sequence of TIFF images in addition to the event HDF5, but it is unclear what the potential performance penalty it will impose on a already stressed system.

Describe the solution you'd like
Add a new step to perform the 2D hist binning to produce the image in memory, and benchmark the performance penalty.

Describe alternatives you've considered
A dedicated binary to produce the image on a different system, but this requires way more hardware work and potential issues with networking.

Additional context
The existing test data should be sufficient for this purpose.
