Disable deletion of passed markers

Hi,

Is there any way of disabling the automatic deletion of markers that have been passed? Sometimes when I'm hiking I don't follow a planned route and I'd like to use markers to add occasional flags showing where I've been. I looked at using trip recording but I don't want to leave my phone on/running since that tends to consume the battery, especially on longer hikes. I also considered using Favorites, but that's slightly more complex since I have to type in a name and I'd prefer just to tap-hold then click the Marker.
