Category drop-down loading language selection URLs

With the new category drop-down in the side panel, selecting a category works OK for most of them, but for some it loads a URL which selects a different language!

• 'Legal' -> https://blog.openstreetmap.org/?lang=ru
• 'jobs'-> https://blog.openstreetmap.org/category/fosm-es/jobs/?lang=es
• 'local chapters'-> https://blog.openstreetmap.org/category/uncategorized/

That's just looking at the categories while in 'english' language, but different languages cause a different list of categories, which may be part of the problem.

Oh I created this issue here because I thought @mikelmaron must have implemented the drop down within the theme, but I was misremembering. I guess he just activated this option:
