Single column of iron bars rendering as if they are connected on all 4 sides rather than a single skinny pole

Subject says it all - is there a way to identify the appropriate shape of the iron bars in this case?

I can't test this ATM, but does this apply to a single glass pane or ender rods?

EDIT: Ender rods not rendering horizontal or vertical. Will run glass panes as soon as I can.

You can see all kinds of example materials at the link i sent, looks like most of them are rendering horizontal attachments even when not adjacent to anything.
