hey, I just wanna say that this was amazing, and the end of the demo was awe inspiring. the mechanic you programmed was very interesting to play with (I personally don't think people use it enough). now for criticism, cause I'm going to make this into a review, not out of hate, but out of hope this can become something more. spoilers ahead! the beginning feels really out of place, and feels like its way too obvious for a start. a recommendation is to take inspiration from the DLC (yes, i know that this will sound very pretentious). the beginning of the DLC does add new things on timber hearth, but nothing crazy and unexpected, not like an alien transportation device of unknown origin or a new planet, but rather a radio tower that brings to light a puzzle. this radio tower technically does not exist if the DLC isn't installed, but canonically it does due to the existence of the satellite. still, it doesn't feel like its drastically changing the beginning of the loop, and that's what you should aim for. the radio tower gave the players something new to look for, not just an instant teleport to wherever the mod takes place. the radio tower didn't add anything, just new information. this part has gone on long enough, so its time to get to the next part. the portals are very laggy. i understand that you may be aware already, but i will say it anyway. i may not be a programmer, but these things just slow down the game a lot, and i have no idea why. i suggest you figure out why before it becomes a massive problem, because that will be very painful to fix once you use it a lot. time for number three, astetics. the technology used by every species is always different exept in extreme scenarios, such as the hearthians using nomai technology in their scouts. the Nomia never used the strangers technology, and the stranger's inhabitants never used the Nomai's technology. the use of a black hole to transport to this new area makes no logical sense due to the fact they never seem to use it in the rest of their ship, at least for the demo. I recommend a new form of transport based around the portals, which have already shown promise. remember, every species has some kind of gimmick or method of interacting with their technology, so make something unique! good luck, and I hope this isnt a comment for a project thats been dead for 3 years! |
