Typing indicator

It would be really handy to see when the other party is typing.

As the site owner, it might also be nice to see what the user is typing so that I can provide a faster reply.

I've seen this implemented in two ways

1. Temporary chat bubble with typing animation (Messenger, Intercom)
2. Static "Daniel is typing" text (Slack, Whatsapp)

I prefer the aesthetics of 2. because the transition between the typing indicator and the new message never looks good, especially when the user sends a message and keeps typing.

2 is also much easier to implement.

2 sounds good! just need to figure out the best place to put it -- maybe right above the message input area? 🤔

Slack puts theirs under the input area, but you don't have any space there right now.

Precursor puts it on the line that separates the chat box and I think it works pretty well:
