We appreciate your opinion, and we'd be delighted to help if you want to add or counter implement some of OPAL's features in Go.

We actually gave this a lot of thought, and even dedicated an entire section of our Readme to this:

While there are many reasons for using Python here, the main one (I'd say) is extensibility - as with Python it's super easy for a suer to add a new DataFetcher as a python module in few lines of code, no compiling, or packaging required, and Python probably provides the most ready made packages for data-processing / integrations - than any other language.

Extensibility could be provided through the go plugin support introduced in go 1.8. Also unless you want your python code mounted into the opal-client container you would probably build your own image, which discredits the "no-packaging required" argument a bit.

Hi @blacksails - We love Go - you can see for example we created Optoggles in Go.
That said, I still think when it comes to data streaming - Python has a much more mature ecosystem, making the extensibility part much easier. Though Go sure is growing.

Re mounting into the image / repackaging- you can actually use OPAL directly as a Python Package - and even inherit from it to extend it (that's how we use it in Permit.io BTW).

Anyhow - can we move on from language flame wars to more productive discussions- like Tabs vs Spaces :P ?

thats not up for discussion always spaces... except when gofmt forces you to use tabs 🤣
