Reviewing against badging standard v2023-01

Having read the policy on the website:

  • Masking: Robust, note that the "nobody likes masks" line is somewhat aggressive, and may be read by someone skimming the policy as not requiring masks. Consider revising this language.
  • Vaccines: No identifiable policy; for "efforts made", consider encouraging attendees to be up-to-date on vaccines including current formulation of boosters, including the bivalent booster that became available in September 2022 in the US
  • Tests: No identifiable policy; for "efforts made", consider encouraging attendees to test before departing to Ottawa, before attending the event, 5 days after the event, and providing rapid antigen tests to people with financial need
  • Ventilation: No identifiable policy, except for the social event
  • Alternatives: Robust per our policy, but probably shouldn't be -- Streaming offered to the public, however that there is no requirement that attendees exhibiting COVID/flu-like symptoms in ways that are unusual to them not attend the event

Note that we're disagreeing with their self-assessment for vaccines, tests, and ventilation: this was entirely down to documentation not being readily available on the BSDCan website. With appropriate documentation of the form suggested, these should all be upgraded to "efforts made".

Ironically, the conference started today. We can't take any action today, but will keep this in mind for 2024.

@dlangille I'm so sorry my delay in processing this application! I hope y'all have a fabulous event. We'll go through the motions of our process here, add BSDCan as a signatory, and make sure to celebrate y'all's success.
