Picard Barcode Scanner Privacy Statement

This privacy statement applies to the Android app Picard Barcode Scanner as published by me, Philipp Wolfer, on the Google Play Store and as source and APK on https://github.com/phw/PicardBarcodeScanner.

It does not apply to any Picard Barcode Scanner app that might be provided by any third party. If you have received the Picard Barcode Scanner from any third party please refer to the privacy policy of that third party.

Picard Barcode Scanner is my personal open source project, that I develop in my spare time for my personal use. I make it available to you without any intent of making profit, in the hope that it will be useful, but without any warranty; without even the implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose.

Data processing and storage

Picard Barcode Scanner does not store or process any personal data nor does it make personal data available to any third party. In particular Picard Barcode Scanner does not gather any personal data, does not perform any user analytics or user tracking and does not make any personal data available to third-parties in any way.

Permissions

Camera: Picard Barcode Scanner needs access to your device's camera in order to detect and scan EAN or UPC product barcodes. The camera image is only used for barcode detection and for reading the actual barcode number from it. The image itself is not permanently stored on your device and is not submitted to any external service.

Internet: Picard Barcode Scanner needs internet access to search for releases matching the scanned barcode in the MusicBrainz database. For the search only the scanned barcode number is being submitted to MusicBrainz, no personal data is being submitted and no account on MusicBrainz is required.

MusicBrainz is an open, community managed music database, which makes all data available under free and open licenses. MusicBrainz is operated by the MetaBrainz Foundation, a California based 501(c)(3) tax-exempt non-profit corporation dedicated to keeping MusicBrainz free and open source. Please refer to the MetaBrainz Data Policy if you have any questions on the data usage of the MusicBrainz service.

Picard Barcode Scanner is my personal project and not endorsed by the MetaBrainz Foundation.

Source code

Picard Barcode Scanner is free, open source software. You can inspect, share and use its source code under the terms of the GNU General Public License as published by the Free Software Foundation, either version 3 of the License, or (at your option) any later version.

The app available on the Google Play Store and the APK packages on the GitHub release page are built from the exact same source that is publicly available on https://github.com/phw/PicardBarcodeScanner without any additions. If you find anything in the source that you think is concerning your privacy please let me know.

Contact

If you have any questions regarding the data usage of this app please open an issue on the Picard Barcode Scanner project on GitHub or contact me directly.
