Huge +1 for F-Droid. Advanced Android users don't use Google Play. Would be great to appeal to them from PR, onboarding, and perhaps recruiting perspectives. Mind that F-Droid builds and signs APKs themselves, and I bet it would be a burden to verify the build after them. If you install from F-Droid, you trust devs and F-Droid to build it correctly and not insert malware. It would be nice to also have APKs built and signed by our devs. |
Recent events show how quickly an app can be taken down from Google and Apple stores. Publishing at f-droid.org, self-hosted F-Droid repo, self-hosted APK or even putting the APK into IPFS/Sia/etc is becoming more relevant. |
Decred Address Scanner is now on F-Droid. We might reuse some of this experience for dcrandroid. Relevant activity is decred/dcraddrscanner#5 (Inital Fastlane Structures) and decred/dcraddrscanner#6 (comply with F-Droid license requirements). |
APKs are now available on the release page (https://github.com/planetdecred/dcrandroid/releases/tag/v1.6.1) However there have been conflicting reports on the possibility if hosting Decred Wallet on F-Droid, proper investigation and documentation would be made regarding that |
APKs should be added to the releases and getting on F-Droid would also be positive.
