Previously this probably wasn't a problem since those threads weren't tagged, but now it seems users are able to flair their own threads after posting with the redesign.

This was most likely just AutoMod delay with posts made on old Reddit. The redesign is not susceptible to this issue since it requires flair to be added before the post can be submitted. (Although one flaw I just noticed is that it's possible for them to manually remove their post's flair after posting, but that's something they'd have to go out of their way to do.)

If someone wants to submit a fix for this issue, then that's awesome, but just to be clear this is not a new issue; it's just something that happens on rare occasions when Reddit servers are acting up.
