Using signal portable triggered an update to my safety number

I linked signal portable to my phone and sent a message. As a consequence, my safety number was updated and all my contacts were notified. This did not happen when I used the non-portable version.

Steps to reproduce this issue

1. Install signal portable
2. Link it to your phone
3. Sent a message to a group chat

Expected behaviour

AFAIK messaging should be possible without any updates to my safety number.

Actual behaviour

My safety number was updated
