Following the Blacklight UI, we should make config.advanced_search.enabled = true actually render an Advanced Search link in the ArcLight UI near the search box. That should link to the built-in BL advanced search form (at /catalog/advanced) that is rendered automatically for any Blacklight 8 app.
At the moment, there is a Solr bug preventing this built-in advanced search from working properly. This situation and related workarounds are documented here on the Blacklight wiki.
Until that is all resolved, this ticket is likely not high priority.
