Can not gain handshake over I2C between ESP32 AND ES8388s..?

CURRENT ISSUE:

ESP32 & ES8388(S) ARE CURRENTLY NOT HANDSHAKING ON CUSTOM BAREMETAL BOARD OVER I2C DESPITE ATTEMPTING MANY VARIATIONS OF GPIO SET UP AND CODE

ADDITIONAL NOTES & QUESTIONS

CAN ALL PINS BE DEFINED AS DESIRED INCLUDING THE MCLKPIN?
I CAN NOT SEEM TO FIND A WAY TO GET THE ES8388S TO WAKE UP AND HANDSHAKE!
I HAVE TRIED MANY COMBINATIONS OF THINGS.
I2C SEEMS TO BE BURSTING DATA BUT NO RESPONSE?
PERHAPS INCORRECT ADDRESS, PIN CONFLICT OR OTHER ISSUE?
AM I CALLING THE PINS CORRECTLY ETC?

• I don't really see any error, but I would suggest for the following improvements:
  • use the predefined Wire1 instead of defining your own object.
  • don't call my_pins.begin() and audio_board.begin() because this will be automatically done by i2s_out_stream.begin().
• The AudioDriverES8388Class driver has been written for ES8388: I don't know how compatible is to your ES8388S! By default the address 0x10 is used.
• Use the I2C Scanner sketch to double check your wiring and port
• Set the audio-driver log level to Info and the Core Debug Level (in Arduino Tools) to Info to double check the information

It seems that wireScan presented no return..

I imagine this may be a deeper hardware issue or incompatibility with the ES8388?

As I understand, address sniffing *should* at least return a response(?)

(Possible pullup / signal / trace / basic comms issue??)

I would appreciate any further help with this as I feel I am close but still yet so far!
