M: Introduction - slides\ Frank & Saxe (2012): Teaching Replication\ Hawkins et al. (in press): Improving the Replicability of Psychological Science Through Pedagogy

W: Reproducible reports\ We'll be working through this RMarkdown workshop, learning to create reproducible reports.

F: Version control\ We'll be walking through a git tutorial, which you will then turn in as Problem Set 1.

Problem Set 1 due Sunday

Week 2 - October 1 - Data Analysis

This whole week will be working through the tidyverse packages, specifically dplyr and tidyr. We'll be using this tutorial. The best reference for this material in longer form is Hadley Wickham and Garrett Grolemund's book, R for Data Scientists (R4DS), which is available free online.

M: The Tidyverse, 1

W: The Tidyverse, 2

F: Consolidating Tidyverse Skills In this section, we'll be working through additional data tidying practice.

Project proposal due Sunday

Week 3 - October 8 - Experimental Design

M: Design of Experiments - slides\ Rosenthal & Rosnow (1991). Design of Experiments.

W: Measurement, Reliability, and Validity - slides\ Stevens (1946)\ Crohnbach & Meehl (1955), Construct Validity\ Optional: Krosnick & Presser (2010). Question and Questionnaire Design. This chapter is the resource for how to design individual questions in a questionnaire.

F: Experimental Design Practicum\ TAs will lead a discussion about design of experiments, reliability, and validity.

Problem Set 2 due Sunday

Week 4 - October 15 - Gathering Data

Make sure you have an MTurk requester account before class on Wednesday. You can also check out Prolific for an alternative.

M: Sampling - slides\ Rosenthal & Rosnow (1991), Sampling

W: Experiments 1: MTurk - slides\ Tom Hardwicke will introduce Problem Set #3, on computational reproducibility.\ In class, we'll be making an experiment on Mechanical Turk.\ Crump et al. (2013), Evaluating MTurk\ Wired article

F: Experiments 2: Implementation\ If you are using JavaScript, you will be working through this tutorial.\ If you are using Qualtrics or another platform, you will be meeting with a separate group.

Week 5 - October 22 - Statistical Approaches

Notes for this week's class can be found here.

M: Statistical Approaches: Inference vs. Estimation\ Cumming (2013), The New Statistics.\ Cohen (1994), The Earth is Round, p< .05

W: Power Analysis and Planning\ Cohen (1992), A Power Primer\ We'll be using G*Power, a software package for power analysis, as well.

F: Power Analysis Workshop - slides\ We'll be working through the power analyses for individual projects and figuring out together how to allocate course resources for data collection. Note that these slides also have some information about projects.

Week 6 - October 29 - Midterm Presentations

See Replication Project info page for information on how to prepare your presentations.
