Lancé en 1965 à la demande des doyens des établissements d'études supérieures du Canada, Thèses Canada est un programme collaboratif entre Bibliothèque et Archives Canada (BAC) et les universités canadiennes. Ce programme vise à :
- acquérir et préserver les thèses et mémoires des universités participantes
- offrir un libre accès aux thèses et mémoires numériques canadiens conservés dans la collection
- faciliter l’accès aux thèses et mémoires non numérisés dans la collection
An institutional repository is a digital archive of an institution’s intellectual output. These repositories also form part of a larger global system of repositories, which are indexed in a standardized way, and searchable using one interface, providing the foundation for a new model of scholarly publishing.

The Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (NDLTD) is an international organization dedicated to promoting the adoption, creation, use, dissemination, and preservation of electronic theses and dissertations (ETDs). We support electronic publishing and open access to scholarship in order to enhance the sharing of knowledge worldwide.
OATD.org aims to be the best possible resource for finding open access graduate theses and dissertations published around the world. Metadata (information about the theses) comes from over 1100 colleges, universities, and research institutions. OATD currently indexes 6,726,162 theses and dissertations.
