Automatic Quotation Generation

We need to allow users to create automatic quotations by including the price column along with other columns which are there like
height,width,depth of the items.
I am thinking of doing that but don't know where to begin, if you could guide me i will be more than happy,
also if prices of the items could be automatically generated by pre-storing them and not having to add them manually it would be better. again please guide me on where can i begin doing that.
the above mentioned two features would make a ton of difference.
