This is the only city with more than (1) million people. The second-largest city is Zarqa, with over 635,000 people, and Irbid, with over (500,000) people.
Currently, 16 cities in Jordan have over (100,000) people and comprise over half of the country’s population.
Jordan’s urban population is about 91.4% of its total population. As Jordan continues to grow, the urban population is expected to continue growing too.
Jordan has (1) cities with more than a million people, 5 cities with between 100,000 and 1 million people, and 30 cities with between 10,000 and 100,000 people. The largest city in Jordan is Amman, with a population of people.

<p id="rawan1"style="font-family:cursive; font-size: 15px" >
1)Amman :

*
is the capital and largest city of Jordan and the country's economic, political and cultural centre,With a population of 4,007,526, Amman is the largest city in the Levant region and the sixth-largest city in the Arab world.
The earliest evidence of settlement in Amman is in a Neolithic site known as 'Ain Ghazal, where some of the oldest human statues ever found dating to 7250 BC were uncovered. During the Iron Age, the city was known as Ammon, home to the Kingdom of the Ammonites. It was named Philadelphia during its Greek and Roman periods, and was finally called Amman during the Islamic period.
For much of the early and middle Islamic periods (7th–14th centuries), it served as a center for the Balqa district of Syria. Afterwards, Amman was a largely abandoned site until the late 19th century when Circassians settled there which was (at the time) apart of the Ottoman Empire in 1878. Afterwards, they played a big part in transforming the village into a town, now a city. The first municipal council was established in 1909.

<p id="rawan2"style="font-family:cursive; font-size: 15px" >
2)Zarqa :

*
Zarqa is Jordan's industrial centre. It is home to over 50% of Jordanian factories. The growth of industry in the city is the result of low real estate costs and proximity to the capital Amman.
Several facilities that are vital to Jordan's economy are based in Zarqa, such as Jordan's only oil refinery plant. According to the Zarqa Chamber of Commerce, 10% of Jordan's total exports in 2011 came from Zarqa Governorate, amounting to more than US$512 million.
Zarqa is connected by the Hejaz Railway to Amman to the south and to Syria to the north. A new railway is under construction to connect Amman with Zarqa.
Zarqa lies on the international highway that connects Saudi Arabia with Syria and on the international Amman-Baghdad highway.

<p id="rawan2"style="font-family:cursive; font-size: 15px" >
3)Balqa :

*
It is located northwest of Amman, Jordan's capital.
The governorate has the fourth largest population of the 12 governorates of Jordan, and is ranked 10th by area. It has the third highest population density in the kingdom after Irbid Governorate and Jerash Governorate.
The "Balqa" historically referred to the entire area of the eastern plateau of the Jordan valley as early as the 7th century when Heraclius' brother Theodore fought an early campaign against the Arabs on the approaches to southern Syria,During World War I, the British army led by General Edmund Allenby entered Salt on 24 March 1918, in the Battles for Amman campaign, marking the end of a 500-year Ottoman rule.
It was one of the largest military confrontations of the War of Attrition, in the period between the Six-Day War of 1967 and the Yom Kippur War of 1973.

After succeeding in repulsing Macedonian and Roman invasions, Petra finally fell to the Roman Empire in 103 A.D.
Near Petra is Mount Hor, where is it believed that Aaron the brother of Moses died: the mountain is referred to as Jebel Nebi Harun (Mountain of Prophet Aaron) in Arabic.
