Do we want to invite people to join our Slack on the website? Unless the Slack is meant mainly for "organizers", I think it might be nice to have a link to request to be added

I'm totally fine with that.

@hidyverse @val-pf @julianpistorius I thought at one point we had a concern about security-through-obscurity w.r.t. advertising the existence of (our slack).slack.com? Or maybe I'm misremembering...

Also, if we make it public, it might be worth checking that anyone can request access (I'm happy to test); IIRC, I hit some weird constraints about not being able to even request access without an @***.edu address when I was trying to request access to UX@UA and my @arizona address was defunct

The reason the slack is not linked on the Website is that any invitation code will expire after 3 months 30 days, so it would need to be updated regularly. Someone (I believe @alex-r-bigelow or @julianpistorius) wanted to search for a solution for that online, since we can hardly be the only people with this problem. How @jcoliver solves this is by having a link to a sign up form that emails him and he then adds each person manually.

The UA Data Science has a little GitHub page that directs users to a Google Form. After agreeing to the Code of Conduct, they receive a registration link (that does not seem to expire 🤔 )

If I try to send an invitation link from ResBaz slack, it says: link will expire in 30 days.
Maybe the UA data science slack is different from the ResBaz Slack in terms of plan, or you @jcoliver have more rights than me (I am a "member" in ResBaz, but you might be an "admin" in the UA data science slack). I did not find the slack help and FAQ helpful for solving this.
@Aariq you are welcome to propose or work on a system for this.

Yah, could be a permissions thing (although it was set up soooo long ago, and by someone else (Keaton), who knows?).
