First of all, thnxs for posting this presentation and video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8xy1XTzICM.
Second, please ask the people that manage the youtube channel to post a link to this board, or a specific post for people to leave comments and feedback. I had to jump trough hoops to be sure I was in the right place (fedora discussions, fedora magazine and finally here). I am still not sure this is the best place. (Now I see it shouldnt be, as you have a discussion.fedoraproject.org link in the installer itself.)
Disclaimer: I don't expect to have everything done, but hope that you might look into this feedback and understand my reasoning and at least think about it.
Now for the feedback, per screen:
Screen #1, #2 and #3 are completely out of flow. Worse, you cannot reach back and change your configurations if you somehow misconfigured something. I understand this "methodology", but wouldn't exclude these steps from the Installer...
Recomendation: Think about doing these screens also in the webUI, and have the user start directly into configuration step... at least user will be able to go to previous steps to change language and keyboard.
1- Language screen:
2- Keyboard screen:
3- Try/install screen
That title: "Install fedora linux 40 (workstation Edition pre-release)" really? we are installing already? this should be "Opt to Try or to Install"
The Release version should be present in every screen, down to the left hand corner of every screen... as a reminder of the version you are installing.
Stopping here for an alternative, that is not my preferred one... but would help on consistency with the install screens in webUI.
Use a similar page title on every page: Fedora Linux 40 ( workstation edition prerelease) configuration. Use the title in the content to be Literal on what is expected (check top labels for ideas).
For the web installer per se... and risking going against my previous alternative... But I said back then It was not my preferred one :D
Hate the header bar, constant, repetitive and gives no important indication to the user. The Linux and release should never occupy that precious real estate, use it to make evident what is expected on that screen.
4- install method screen
BLivet GUI... not even going there.
5- There was a misunderstanding from my part. in the video you just presented one of the screens under "disk configruation" so my initial idea is not valid.
6- Review and install screen
7- Installation and final configuration
Alternative: Add all "5 Configuration and "6 Finalization" as steps on the left pane.
8- Success screen
"finish and reboot" should be the main CTA, that closes the window and does a reboot. "Quit" should be the regular Quit on the right side of the main CTA. Consistency.
Hope some of these resonate. a big part are just content change.
