I can't get the plugin to work well with IE8, is this expected? If so that's fine, I just wanted to confirm whether it was my mistake in using the plugin or not.

This is because of lack of support on bind(); in IE8. I got it working with this compatibility script:

Just paste before the newsticker jquery.
