Eraser doesn't work after switching to toggle mode

After installing the program, when I run manage.sh install --toggle, the eraser doesn't work. The undo and redo actions do. This is weird, and doesn't really make sense; the program should either work or not work. Perhaps the restarted program has problems writing to the /dev/input file?

I should test various sequences of install commands to see which actually trigger this.
