This has come up here at Lancaster as well, just the other week. I'm going to add a permission, assignable by role, to enable the revealing of the author's name. The data is in the db, just hidden in the UI.

If you click on permissions, there should be a permission called viewAnonymous. Just turn that on for roles you want to be able to see the user's display name.
Look at the second screenshot above, the permission is turned off(the name is hidden in the first screenshot).
Since there is only two posts it is quite easy to find out that it is Jonas that did the second post in the topic.
When using anonymous posting there is a way to find out which user that made the anonymous post in the Authors view. See attahced screenshots.
