Support for Windows platforms in the SRP distribution
-----------------------------------------------------
Platforms based on the "Win32" API (Windows 98, NT, 2000,
XP, and flavors therein) can build the SRP distribution,
or parts of it, depending on what build environment(s)
are available.
Cygwin should be able to build nearly all of the distribution
using the standard "configure" mechanism, although the
resulting executables will require Cygwin DLLs in order
to run. Also, libraries may not be usable by other
build environments like MSVC++.
MinGW/MSYS can build parts of the distribution, also using
the standard "configure" mechanism, producing executables
that run directly under Windows. Libraries may or may
not interoperate with MSVC++.
NOTE: version 3.79.1 of "make" as included with some versions
of MinGW have problems handling the Makefiles created by the
"configure" mechanism. Suggested workarounds including
installing MSYS 1.0.8 or 1.0.9, which appear to ship with
a make.exe without the bug.
MSVC++ can build the libsrp library, either as a DLL or
static library, with full interoperability with other
MSVC++ projects and code. This requires use of the
Windows and MSVC-specific Makefiles and workspaces/projects
in the "win32" subdirectory. Your choise of crypto libraries
is fairly limited if you go this route, since these
workspaces/projects are individually set up for each
supported library. Please read "win32/README"
for more information.
Another issue to consider is how easily the crypto/math
library builds under the desired environment. Cygwin and
MinGW/MSYS should be able to build most of the freeware
crypto libraries that use a "configure"-style script,
while MSVC++ might be more limited in this regard.
