Need icon for MIME application/x-raw-disk-image #234
Comments
Something like this: application-x-disk-image.svg.zip Courtesy of some community member. |
Received this from a helping hand, maybe it is useful? |
I feel like a photo realistic picture of a hard drive doesn't fit too well with the other mime types. And it would be hard to scale down and look not very great at smaller sizes. Elementary and most themes link x-raw-disk-image to use the same icon as the CD Image. That would be the simplest thing to do. Playing around I came up with these, which I think are a little cleaner and fit better with the more simplistic mime shapes. And would scale well. But maybe a floppy is too abstract. What do you think? |
Thanks for having a look at this @newhoa. It's the old question whether we should perpetuate floppy disks when they have been out of use for roughly two decades now. My assumption would be that with "disk" images we are largely dealing with "hard disk images" rather than "floppy disk images" these days. This is a similar icon on the Mac: Personally I never had any issues identifying what it meant, since the inner part of the icon is used for hard disks. |

True about the floppies! I still like them symbolically though :p I had a PR already pending and went ahead and added the symlink from elementary upstream. That links it to the cd-image icon. It's not great but at least it won't be a blank icon (if they accept my PR that is). It's the quickest thing to do for now till we get something better in. |
