Is there an existing feature request for this?

  • I have searched the existing feature requests

Is your feature request related to a problem or use-case? Please describe.

For downstreams that distribute v0.12.0, we would like to have a "z-stream" release that has backports of bug fixes and security-related dependency updates.

Describe the solution that you would like.

Create branch that starts at the v0.12.0 tag, where backport pull requests can be merged. Ex: release-v0.12.

Describe alternatives you have considered.

N/A

Anything else?

We need to investigate if our current release scripts will work against an arbitrary branch (not main).

From Refinement, there is a SHIP related. See shipwright-io/community#190

We have a release branch set up for z-streams, but we have not actively tagged a z-stream release for a security fix. I think we can call this "done" because the release branch workflows have been tested.
