Does this work without internet access, just over the local network?

Hi,

After retyping this question about 5 times I seems to have it boil down to: where does the myVAILLANT API live?
Is it on the vaillant module (I'm considering a vr940f), or on the internet?
Or to put it another way, if my internet is down, will this integration still be able to control my heating over the local network?

I recently got installed an aerotherm from Saunier Duval in Spain, and it's perfectly integrated in my HASS.
Also recently, I got bitten by the privacy bug, I'm a little obssesed with this matter, and I found myself in a Degoogling journey.
So I've been for a few days wondering just what you asked, and I did some research. Mild and basic research: I filtered the vr940f IP in my router, so it can't reach the internet, and I tried to change some parameters in the android app AND in the Home Assistant integration.
No communication at all, so the data might be in the gateway or in the machine, but the API needs internet. And it sends about 50MB every night to some server, not bad at all.

This concern of me also comes from some aspect that amazed me, after reading the contract that Saunier Duval maintenance service sent me this week, in order to subscribe to the maintenance service for 15 years. Besides the technical part, it's freaking interesting that you are signing that, basicly, they OWN your data once you sign. Usage data, schedules, power consumption, system state, zones states and temperatures... Everything. They even recognize that they are going to use your data (after anonimizing it --> ???) to improve their product, aka USE YOUR DATA SO THEY EARN MORE MONEY. Not to speak about the consecuences of a data breach, they easily could know when you are and when you AREN'T at home, for example.
This service costs 300€/year, by the way. Not a bad business, in my opinion.

I am deeply reluctant to sign this service, obviously. I answered them that I'd like to speak to the Privacy Manager, which is a real position in their firm. I have low hopes on that.

In the meantime, I'm trying to find a way to obtain all that amazing data from the API, which I really love, but I haven't had any luck for now. I'll give it a few weeks, and I guess I'll finally end up disconnecting the f****ing gateway.

I have to dig in into the e-bus protocol, because the gateway gets the data through it from the machine, but I think it will be much more effort.
