Especially on a small screen, adding/removing recording causes layout shifts, which can be jarring to the data entry. Feedback from one mobile user:
When recording, the position of the elements on the page shifts in unexpected and unpredictable ways, so one does not know whether one is recording or not; in one instance, we recorded more than a minute without knowing it.
