Some old stuff that might be of use: https://github.com/hackers-of-umass/bus-tracker.

Looks like there's been some code written already in other projects for this sort of thing. There's also hints that there might be some sort of nice REST/something API out there ("Avail"?) but the PDF documenting it is gone.

I don't know that it's good for newcomers, but it seems like it is so I'm just gonna go ahead and mark it as such. Needs more research though.

Recommended experience:

  • Googling
  • JavaScript?
  • XML/JSON?
  • I don't really know tbh

Here we go! It's a real, proper official web API: http://bustracker.pvta.com/InfoPoint/swagger/ui/index#/

Turns out the PVTrAck app is open source, so we can use it as a reference implementation: https://github.com/umts/pvta-multiplatform

Also UMass Transportation Services has a super active GitHub organization. We should dig around and see if we can find more cool stuff.
