If I download the source, either git clone or downloading the zip, npm install nukes the steam-controller-player module, replaces it with a symlink to itself. Works fine if I back up steam-controller-player before it's nuked, but.

It's been a while and I no longer really maintain this (though rewriting it in C or Rust or something has been on my bucketlist for a while, probably using hid-api instead of libusb,), but I remember the npm setup to have been a huge hack because I somehow convinced myself that putting the non-tracker code in a separate-but not really private-ish package was the best option.
At least you've found a workaround, so that's good, but I don't know if I'm going to be fixing anymore issues on that project (or at least, that iteration of it), sorry :/
