Organize a method of ride share coordination #164
Comments
Jill has suggested a public google doc. So far its the best option I've heard. Any one else have thoughts/objections/ideas? |
I was going to try to throw something together real quick. Something where you give the days you are going to attend and your zip code, then you will get emailed suggestions of people who are close to you, or close to your route to suggest contacting and car pooling. If that sounds like something Scale would like, could you give me a ~week (dec 23) to see what how much I could do before the end of this year. Also, I was going to look to see if there are any web hooks/api's for metro.net . The Metro Gold line has a station a few blocks away and it might be easier/cheaper for people to take public transportation. |
@sbibayoff Sounds interesting. Happy to give you a bit to hack on the idea before we announce the spreadsheet. Let us know how we can help. |
@sbibayoff Hope you had a good holiday. Just checking in to see if you had a chance to hack on this. Thanks! |
Been looking into it. Original idea was too ambitious(and a full plate on my end). Backup plan is putting up a forum/bulletin-board with premade subjects of geographical areas(OC, SFV, IE, SGV, West Side, etc..). With a map with push pins of locations of people who need a ride or could offer a ride their location hyper-linked with their post. Be done by Sunday, Jan 3. |
@sbibayoff thanks. let us know how it goes. We'd like to put something out this week since we're only about 16 days till the conference. |
@irabinovitch Give me a day or two (Friday?). Sorry for the delay. |
@sbibayoff Ping? |
@irabinovitch Latter today, very basic but functional (hopefully?) |

@sbibayoff should we create a repo for this here? |
@sbibayoff ping? |
Got side tracked. Will be uploading some code/plans to github and have a rough functionality in the next few weeks. |
Awesome, thanks @sbibayoff |
@sbibayoff Hope all is well. Let us know when this is up and we'll get it posted for 15x. |
@sbibayoff we have a few other folks that'd like to help here. Can you push your code somewhere? |
@irabinovitch Will start pushing code this week. I need to get in touch w/ @hriday , @leizleiz , @rgolan and/or other(?) about hooks into the registration system, would like to send out "suggestions" to people after they register, something like "Hey, there is 5 people that live within 2 miles of you, would you like to contact them to organize a ride together?" (or sometime like that. Moving this to the Scaloop issue tracker. |
I can add a survey question for registration so attendees can opt-in to this, like they do with the scale-announce mailing list. It'll just be a simple checkbox. Let me know if you want the question phrased in a particular way. |
Something along the lines: Should be a better way to phrase it. Need to give it more thought. |
@sbibayoff how are we looking? With SCALE coming up quickly we really need to launch this in the next week or two if we want to make it happen. |
With the event changing locations here carpooling and rideshare would be great to help more people get to the event. Lets find a way to help folks who are interested in carpooling find each other.
