There appears to be several issues with the signing script at the moment:

  1. kubeseal appears to have released a breaking change somewhere between 0.20.2 (exclusive, this version works correctly) and 0.24.5, that causes the update script to incorrectly encrypt values, resulting in an unreadable secret.
  2. The update script seems to work barely or not at all on MacOS
