Thanks for the report. I can reproduce this and I agree it is a bug so hopefully we will be able to fix this at some point. In the meantime, you can open a new console which will be connected to the new kernel.

For other people (or future me) reading this issue: in step 3 of the bug report, restarting the kernel should be done in the notebook.
