I tried to use this program but failed at basic task. At the end i had bricked the uv-k5. I hope this feedback here would help some other users.

When you get a new device in mail, in general you want to do two things:

  1. Backup EEPROM
  2. Install custom firmware

Everything else is more optional for nearly all users.
The current readme of k5prog does not explain this two things in a user friendly way. I do not use google chrome based software, so i had to use the available opensource tools instead of web-flashing and k5prog is the first and most famous search result.

The readme goes directly way too deep into some things that are not from interest for the most users.

After i had a bricked device instead of having a working custom rom, i switched to https://github.com/qrp73/K5TOOL . This is much more simple to use thanks to its readme and everything just worked perfectly fine. So maybe you could adapt your readme to make the basic things i mentioned above more clear and separate them from all the other optional things.
