How can I limit EveryThingToolbar to a specific instance?

I have two different installations of Everything on my system. One is from my AntiVirus, which runs its own Everything. The other is my personal installation of Everything.

They both run at the same time. My personal installation has a unique instance name, while the AntiVirus' Everything runs without an instance name.

**I would like "EveryThingToolbar" to only use my personal installation of Everything.
In the preference menu, I see the option called "Set Instance Name".

1. Can I use that option to accomplish what I want?

2. In that option, am I supposed to put the path and instance name? Or just the instance name?

3. Is there any way to confirm my particular instance's database is being used by EveryThingToolbar?**

Yes, you can use the option so accomplish what you want. For that you will need to define the instance name (without path; just the instance name itself) in the "Set instance name" window.

To verify that EverythingToolbar is using the correct instance name you can either quit the other Everything instance or have a look into the log file located at %TEMP%\EverythingToolbar.log and verify that it says something like "Setting Everything instance name: XYZ".

HI @srwi, a related problem...
When I right click a file in the search results...there's a "Show in everything" option. But I can't figure out how to set it to open in a particular Instance.

It asks you to select the ".exe". I tried pointing it to a shortcut that had the "instance" included. But it always opens in a non-instance window.

And a follow-up to that last problem...if I incorrectly set the "Show in everything" option, how can I clear the setting? Do I need to uninstall EveryThingToolbar and start again?

You are correct. This functionality is currently not implemented in EverythingToolbar. I will take a look and open an issue for that later.

Do you mean the instance name option? You can just clear the textbox in the "Set instance name" window. This will revert back to using the default (unnamed) instance. Please let me know if I misunderstood your question.

Sorry, I was not clear.
So when you right click a file, there is a "Show in everything" option.
The first time you click it, you are asked to point to the Everything ".exe" file.

I want to undo that option, and have it reset back to a state where I never pointed it to any ".exe" file.
I was wondering if it's possible to do that.

Yes, for that you need to edit or remove the configuration file as mentioned by Horst12. The version number of the parent folder might vary depending on your Windows explorer version.

I just implemented a fix for EverythingToolbar always showing search results in the default Everything instance. It will be available later this weekend.

What is the problem behind ?
There must be an Everything availble to use the toolbar.
If the path is no longer right you can change it in the user.config file.
Its location is something like this path
C:\Users\your_name\AppData\Local\Microsoft_Corporation\DefaultDomain_Path_letvcrhmovxkwhkcw5vzjcoa5azw22uj\10.0.22621.1554\user.config
Use the newest available number on the end for the current version.

I don't think the "Show in Everything" option is connected to ability to use the toolbar.
Even if the option is not set, the toolbar still works.

I wish to remove my previous "Show in Everything" setting because it points to a non-"Instance" version of Everything.

Later on, when developer adds ability to open in "Instance", I wish to re-enable it then.
