Heh, I was going to propose this myself, as I'm mulling various ways of going from NetCDF to terminal screen display. It's on my list of things to investigation possible solutions for.

I think a a first step could be to decouple ANSI code generation from converting the image, letting the converter write to a callback or buffer?
