Constant Crashing #19
Comments
Fixed it. All bulbs have to be named uniquely in order to work |
Additionally, if you experience an issue on your network where the bulbs are temporarily experiencing connectivity issues, you may notice that not only might the lamp respond not as expected, but using the discovery feature may also cause the application to crash. A potential cause of the crash is a lack of expected Wi-Fi WAN connectivity, since MaxLifx depends on LIFX LAN communication. Using the discovery feature, in such a case , may see the lamp as not appearing to have its unique name identified as expected. The resolution of the lamp’s name in MaxLifx may/may not be related to the lamp’s ability to connect back to the LIFX cloud.
In this situation, try soft resetting the lamp to restore normal connectivity to the individual lamp. Attempt to rediscover only if the lamp name resolution failed on the list of available lights, or if the lamp disappeared during previous rediscovery attempts.
Once you have succeeded re-discovery, then be sure to close and re-open MaxLifx. Attempting to re-open the stored thread settings, and possibly starting a new thread process could cause unexpected, unreliable performance, and possibly crash if MaxLifx is not closed and reopened.
It is also worth noting that resetting or changing Wi-Fi password or router configuration settings may also cause the above behaviors. In such a situation, it may be necessary to rediscover all lamps in MaxLifx.
Glad you were able to succeed in resolving your situation, and I hope if you experience any strange behavior in the future with MaxLifx, some of the above tips may assist in troubleshooting the issue.
